In this lesson, "Balls and Cylinders", Ginger shows you how to work with shapes, blending and shading. This is a basic lesson that you really want to master because all paintings will have some part of what you will learn here.
Continue working on these Back to Basic lessons and you will be a master of acrylic paints in no time.

So Much Information….Wonderful Video. Thank You Again!
Even an experienced artist needs to occasionally revisit the basics to “brush” up on their skills.
Great Lesson. So much information.
Ginger, when you dry the painting with the hair dryer, do you use cool air, warm air or hot air — and does it make a difference? Thanks! I am hoping going back to basics helps me resolve some of my recurring issues when painting!
Ingrid,
Ginger uses HOT air and then the cool/cold at the end to “set” the paints and make them not sticky that the heat causes. If you use cool or warm, it will just take a little longer to fully dry the paint. We have not noticed any differences using hot, warm or cool as far as the paint is concerned.
Thank you, Jon! I’m working my way through the Back to Basics! Thank you both for sharing your wealth of information and encouragement!
This is wonderful and exactly the type of lessons I needed. Thank you Ginger
Thank you, teacher.
Excited to get started with Back to Basics.I just started painting the end of December ’17 and have enjoyed many hours of YouTube videos and your live shows. I want to get better at painting and my husband treated me to an academy membership. I’m painting for my own enjoyment and relaxation, a nice diversion from work and school. My kids are grown, so I finally have some time for myself. Thank you, Ginger, for sharing your talents and Jon for helping her do so. Looking forward to many hours of enjoyment here and some beautiful (hopefully) artwork for my home.
Just joined yesterday and started watching your back to basics. You are an excellent teacher! I learned so much! Thank you Ginger for your ability to teach an old dog new tricks.
Dawn, the “Back to Basics” is the place to start especially if you are wanting to learn the “Ginger CooK” method of acrylic painting because it is very different than most other acrylic teachers. If you master the basics, you will able to paint the more complex lessons in no time!
